Progressive Taxation is Punishing Success

A recent article/blog I wrote is posted on American Thinker. In 2007, the top 1% of all federal income tax filers earned roughly 23% of all income but paid 40.42% of all federal income taxes. In 2007, the federal government received 1.169 trillion in federal income taxes. The top 1% paid 475.2 billion of that. The top 25% paid 1.012 trillion of the 1.169 trillion. The bottom 50% (70.5 income tax filers) paid 33.84 billion.Needless to say, the so called "rich" do pay their share of taxes. In fact, progressive taxation schemes are designed to redistribute wealth and punish success.Link to the article: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/11/progressive_taxation_is_punish.html

  • That is precisely why I believe in working towards shifting from a tax system based on production to one based on consumption.
