He will be speaking on behalf of the Maryland Coordination and AnalysisCenter (Maryland’s fusion center). What is a fusion center?Fusion centers were established by the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Justice shortly after the release of the 9/11 Report, as a way to enhance the sharing of informationabout suspected terrorists among law enforcement agencies. These centers often include information from non law-enforcement sources, including universities, social services and credit reporting agencies, and the military--in addition to information from the FBI and DHS.How do fusion centers threaten our civil liberties?Fusion centers give law enforcement unprecedented access to information about suspected terrorists. This also means the police can easily invade the privacy of innocent citizens.Missouri’s fusion center produced a report, “The Modern Militia Movement,” which profiled voters for Ron Paul and third-party Presidential candidates as potential terrorists. Information from these and similar reports have been disseminated to law enforcement agencies around the nation. In 2005, the Maryland State Police infiltrated anti-death penalty and peace activist groups. Over fifty activists were listed as terrorists in a fusion center database. For more information, contact:Julie SandhausMaryland Coordinator, Operation Defuse410-370-1552Dendroica2@aol.comFacebook: Operation Defuse.com, Operation De-Fuse Maryland
