If you live in the Washington area or know someone who will be in this area later this week, (perhaps for the Federalist Society National Conference) you may be interested in this Strategy Breakfast with Former U.S. Rep David McIntosh on the "Regulation Freedom" Amendment. It will be at 8 am on Friday Nov. 15 in the Reading Room of the Edgar Restaurant in the Mayflower Hotel. There will also be a national conference call at 4PM EST on Monday November 18 for interested people from around the nation. Please email us for conference call-in information. The breakfast and conference call are sponsored by the Madison Coalition. (not the Federalist Society) Please let us know if you or someone you know would like to attend or to hear more about the event. We will discuss our recent progress on the Regulation Freedom Amendment and the national effort to empower 2/3 of the states to force Congress to propose it by 2015. The Regulation Freedom Amendment would require that Congress review and approve major new federal regulations before they can take effect. Here is the text: THE REGULATION FREEDOM AMENDMENT "Whenever one quarter of the Members of the U.S. House or the U.S. Senate transmit to the President their written declaration of opposition to a proposed federal regulation, it shall require a majority vote of the House and Senate to adopt that regulation." Former Governors George Allen of VA and Bob Ehrlich serve as Hon. Co-Chairs of the Madison Coalition which is leading this effort.
