Conservative Inclusion Coalition Dismayed By Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s Divisive Remarks

Washington, DC (October 20, 2010) – The Conservative Inclusion Coalition (CIC) joins other community groups below in expressing disappointment and opposition to Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA)’s remark, “The Vietnamese and the Republicans are, with an intensity, trying to take this seat from which we have done so much for our community -- to take this seat and give it to this Van Tran, who is very anti-immigrant and very anti-Hispanic," Sanchez said during a recent Spanish-language interview with Univision, according to the Orange County Register.

“Congresswoman Sanchez’s words divide Americans based on race. Hispanic and Vietnamese Americans, like their fellow Americans, work extremely hard to realize the American Dream and continue to help contribute to a positive future for Orange County, California” said Suhail Khan, CIC Chairman.

Rep. Sanchez represents California’s 47th Congressional district, located in central Orange County, California. Americans of Hispanic and Vietnamese origin comprise the district's two largest ethnic groups. California Assemblyman Van Tran, a Vietnamese American, is the Republican nominee for the 47th Congressional district in the upcoming election November 2nd. Rep. Sanchez made her comments in recent television interview on the Spanish-language network Univision.

"Rep. Sanchez' comments are a cynical attempt to put these two prominent, prosperous and growing Californian communities at odds with each other for partisan purposes. Together, we need to continue to promote the harmonious integration of different groups into American life – and not pit one group against another for political gain. Voters should choose their representative based on for his or her leadership skills and ability to better the lives of all Americans” Khan continued.

The Conservative Inclusion Coalition is dedicated to promoting the conservative message to Americans of all ethnic, racial, and faith backgrounds. The group includes grassroots activists, nonprofit leadership, campaign professionals, and Congressional coalitions staff. In particular, the Coalition works to educate elected officials, candidates, and the public at-large on how best to reach out to all groups of Americans about the American principle of freedom and the need to promote and preserve it.
