Beware: CASA makes another move

CASA de Maryland (Central American Solidarity Association) bills itself as an immigrant assistance nonprofit organization headquartered in Montgomery County. But it does much more than merely assist legal immigrants. CASA acts as an employment agency for both legal and illegal immigrants; teaches illegal aliens how to avoid the police and immigration authorities; teaches them how to obtain driver's licenses; how to obtain government assistance; and most importantly, acts as legal and political representation for illegal aliens throughout the state.Gustavo Torres, executive director of CASA, wields important power in Maryland, particularly in Montgomery County, Prince George's County and Baltimore City. He is himself an immigrant from Columbia via Nicaragua. He is an activist who fled in fear for his life from his native county because his activism was not popular with their government, or so he tells us http://earthops.org/immigration/gustavo-torres1.html.In 2006 Torres was appointed to the gubernatorial transition team of Martin O'Malley. In 2007 he was a guest speaker at a convention in Venezuela entitled "United States: A Possible Revolution." In 2008 he received $1.5 million donation from Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. The state of Maryland, Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and Baltimore City give millions of dollars in taxpayer money to this organization every year, even though CASA actively works against the best interests of Maryland citizens. No one has been able to determine exactly how much in taxpayer dollars this group gets, because their supporters at the county level are very good at hiding funds given to CASA and labeling them in misleading ways. What we do know for certain is that Maryland taxpayers have helped purchase and are renovating what is called The Mansion by many, CASA's new residence, at a cost estimate of $10 million.CASA employees, under Torres' watchful eye, are politically active and regularly work to influence Maryland legislators, many of whom are openly CASA supporters. Ex Dir Gustavo Torres, Kim Propeack, director of political action at CASA, and their legal team, with the willing assistance of CASA supported Delegates and Senators, regularly defeat key pro-citizen bills in the legislature and push key pro-illegal alien bills. They sit in the balcony of the House and Senate, closely watching all illegal immigrant related bills and the debates involved. Propeack regularly testifies on such bills, busing in dozens of Hispanic immigrants to sit in the galley during testimony, silently reminding legislators that it is CASA and its clientele to whom they owe allegiance, and not the citizens of this state. Propeack picks an occasional immigrant to testify with a particularly tear jerking story to tell; stories not necessarily related to the issues at hand, but emotional none the less.Torres and Propeack are why we now have a 2 tiered driver's license instead of the lawful presence license that the citizens of this state demanded. This year, as one floor session ended with their defeat of a strong lawful presence driver's license bill, I witnessed Torres, Propeack and many of their elected cohorts exchanging high-fives and hugs. This was on the main floor of the capital building . A former member of CASA, Ana Sol Gutierrez is one of their elected state officials. Delegate Vallario is another, and he is caught on camera promising hordes of illegal aliens that he will continue to work on their behalf. He introduces many of the other elected illegal alien supporters in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZISU2BLwMJIDoes abuse of taxpayers and their money run in the family? Or, is it just a coincidence that in February of this year $900,000 of taxpayer money was unable to be accounted for at the 'nonprofit' Centro Familia, whose director is Pilar Torres?Given these facts the following event this Saturday in Montgomery County should concern all of us. Who knows what kinds of deals and ideas will be spawned....***Alert from Help Save MarylandWith the full knowledge and financial/in-kind support of the Montgomery County Government and County Council, Montgomery County Police and the States Attorney's Office, the "Safe Silver Spring Summit" scheduled for Saturday May 16, has turned from an open community event into a CASA of Maryland anti-citizen spectacle.CASA of Maryland offices and phone lines, funded by Montgomery County Taxpayers are being used to register participants! Call the Summit Registration Phone Number and don't forget to Press "1" for English!A number of leading citizen groups including Help Save Maryland, have been dropped from the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus event due to the demands of the illegal alien support group CASA of Maryland. This biased event is another example of the poor leadership and questionable values of Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and the entire Montgomery County Council, where citizens are dropped from running summit workshops in taxpayer funded events but hate filled groups like CASA of Maryland can call the shots.Members of Help Save Maryland will be present at the event to represent all Maryland Citizens and to speak out against the lawless policies and priorities of the Montgomery County Government and County Council.CASA of Maryland is the problem not the solution.Safe Silver Spring Summit, Saturday May 16, 2009FACT SHEETMission: The mission of Safe Silver Spring is to develop strategies, partnerships and goals to keep Silver Spring a community where people can live, work, travel, shop and play safely. The first Safe Silver Spring summit will bring together citizens, community leaders, non-profit organizations, and public officials to develop an action plan that enables communities to reduce crime and keep our neighborhoods safer.LocationMontgomery CollegeTakoma Park/Silver Spring CampusWorkshop Topics1.
