On Friday, May 4th, I was one of Five people arrested in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. while holding a prayer vigil for Chen Guangcheng, the blind Christian pro-life activist who spent several years in prison, has endured beatings and torture for calling on the Chinese Government to end their crimes against women who undergo forced abortions and forced sterilzations. The vigil was organized by Christian Defense Coalition Director; The Reverend Patrick Mahoney who was also among the five arrested, handcuffed and taken away.
It is curious that women's organizations here in the U.S. who are constantly talking about reproductive rights that would keep abortion legal become eerily silent when it comes to the reproductive rights of women in China who have zero reproductive rights.
Chen Guangcheng's made a daring escape while under heavy guard from his house. He traveled 300 miles to Beijing where he sought protection and was in fact taken in by the U.S. embassy there. He did this at the same time that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would be arriving for talks with the Chinese Government.
While she was there she "tip-toed" around the subject of human rights in speeches she gave. It is sad that the U.S. Government cares more about our own political self interests than the rights of every human being to live and prosper in freedom and safety - the very values our nation was founded upon.
Deals have been struck, and Chen and his family may make it here so he may study in the U.S., but he is no longer under our protection, the Secretary of State is home here safe and sound, and the Chinese Government could easily change their mind.

Please pray for Chen and his family.
