Dave, Here is the letter I told you about this morning. I'd be interested in your comments, if any. The TV said that the atmosphere there at CPAC was celebratory! Wish I was there.

Obama’s Baltimore Visit, January 29
On his visit to the Republican’s annual retreat in Baltimore on Friday, President Obama chastised Republicans for “obstructing” his agenda and forbeing “partisan.”
There are very good reasons for doing both. It is their job to represent the people, not to rubber stamp an agenda not in their or their country’s best interest.
Does the president expect the Republicans to validate the ruinous, unprecedented federal spendingthat is sending this country into a socialist tailspin, without objection, debate, or confrontation with the facts?
He wants the Republicans (Democrats have already capitulated) to fiddle while the economy burns and the most prosperous andgenerous nation in history goes from super-power to super-coward.
Or is it better to be partisan and obstruct?
Agreement is not possible where there is no common meeting ground. Alarming departures from social, economic, educational, and moral standards require obstruction.
The federal government's primary responsibility, to protect and defend us from foreign and domestic enemies, has given way to an alarmingobsession with interference in the medical profession, not at all a legitimatefunction of the federal government.
Medical costs are out of hand because of, not in spite of, the interference of big government. Fewpeople remember that before the advent of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and myriad other “programs”, health was an individual responsibility, as waseducation, as was charity. And it was largely affordable. What was not, was handled by privateorganizations and charities, or if necessary by the state government.
Even fewer remember education before federal government interference pre-empted the states and produced two generations of civicilliterates who confuse the Constitution with the Communist Manifesto. (Where is this from: “From each according tohis ability and to each according to his need.”?)
Today’s education tells students what, not how, to think. Is there a difference betweencommunism, socialism, fascism, dictatorship, democracy, and republicanism? A great deal.
The first four are incompatible with freedom and with religion. Hence the socialist’s constantpressure to eradicate God from the public landscape, abetted by big government.Even Macchiavelli (proper spelling) recognized the importance of religion togood government.
The Dept. of Education was created to reward teacher’s unions for their support of Jimmy Carter. Whereas in the 50’s, it was possible to earn enough money to pay foryour college education during the summers and in-between semesters, mostcollege students today graduate with a crushing load of debt sometimes lastinginto their forties, unable to afford marriage and a family for years. How many aretaught that the family is the basic unit of a stable society? How many lawshave been passed in support of, rather than detrimental to the family?
The Dept of Energy was created years ago at great expense to decrease our dependency on foreign oil. Has that worked?
Federal legislation under Lyndon Johnson threatened the tax-free status of churches that spoke out for or against political candidateson moral issues. So much for freedom ofspeech.
Catastrophic government overspending does not include the military which waits in line while its funds are cut and its heroes abased. Prosecution of Navy Seals, honoring thefrivolous accusation of sworn enemies, and the granting of citizens rights and privelegesto the underwear bomber and the prisoners at Guantanamo Bayare clear witness to the inversion of priorities.
Abortion rights have the force of law; that is not the question. But the aggressive push to force those with moral objections to payfor it for others can only be called fanatic.
President Obama says corporate donations to candidates will corrupt the election process but allows continued funding of ACORN (underinvestigation in five states for voter fraud), and bars prosecution of theBlack Panthers for voter intimidation caught on tape.
Big and bigger government goes from bad to worse. It has become obvious even to those too young to have lived through more acceptable times, that the federal government isfast becoming their enemy and that a course correction is imperative. Foundedon Judeo-Christian principles, Americahas been the most prosperous nation in history, the most generous, and the hopeof civilization. This has slowly eroded into a government that exists foritself alone, not for the good of the citizens forced to pay for it.
The bottom line: when the federal government interferes beyond its purpose and beyond itscompetence, the problems become worse over time; when government pays itassumes the right to dictate terms and policies as it has done in energy, education, welfare, medicine, religion, taxation, and free elections, to thedetriment of the people.
Understanding the principles of successful government and standing up for them is not “partisan”. It is vital to national survival.
Not only members of one party but all congressional incumbents up for election should be replaced in November and held in checkuntil them.
Yes, there are some good people in Congress now but they are not good enough.
