We will continue to have a broken Maryland Republican Party unless we change the manner that we run the party! We will not fix it unless we understand the problem.
What is the problem?
Top down philosophy is the problem! Until the state party leadership realizes that it is the people that should have a stronger say in the party, we will not succeed. When it was argued that we need to have strong loyal opposition as we started to consider the prescription for a healthy Maryland Republican Party that seems to have been brushed aside.
But for us to move the, Traditional Constitutional Conservative Party, that which has been historically, The Republican Party, forward we need to begin the de-centralization of the Party, and begin a bottom up approach. For if we don't we will squander the greatest opportunity presented in the party's history.
The opportunity that has been given to us on a silver platter by the extreme left-wing element that is controlling the Democratic party is pushing the blue collar traditional Democrat out of the party. These people are just as disgruntled as any Republican, as is the dejected and disaffected unaffiliated Maryland Voter.
A Vigorous primary campaign process at all levels of government will bring new blood into the ranks of the Republican Party, allowing various viewpoints to be put forth thus increasing registration of enrollment & Funding. When it is understood that the Republican Party is willing to be the listener, not the talker, we will win the grassroots voters. When the Republican Party Elite Leadership begins to not pick the winner, or to not celebrate "the" favorite candidate, and lets the Maryland citizen decide we will begin to see an increase in the party registration. We will actually see an increase in party unity. All conservatives and right of center voters being a chance to voice their opinion will bring about a more robust party. When challengers are not discouraged to run against the incumbent Republican, the Party will prosper.
These Maryland citizens who chose not to become affiliated but remain outside the Republican Ranks have a learned disdain where they actually could care less about party. These patriotic citizens care more about policy and principles not labels. For they have seen that a Party label is no guarantee of conservative principled actions once the candidate is elected. This too will be resolved by the injection of the conservative Democrats, disaffected from their life long party, and those Unaffiliated voters.
This will set in place a cascading synthesis of the two circumstances bringing about the gradual increase of participation which will bring about a greater input in to the party’s dynamic thought process, and that will be self- perpetuating. So these two actions, the leadership mindset that takes a hands off approach, thus allowing the individual member to create their own destiny, and thus the destiny of the party which in turn will create robust debate, leading to robust primaries need to both take place, and the leadership must take a more backseat role, more of the custodian of the process, allowing the process to be the judge and jury. The Republican Party once it becomes the “We The People Party” will assuredly move forward, because at some point this simple concept will be better understood, and the people will prevail in their wishes!
